A shading device (1) for providing shade in an urban environment, the device (1) comprising at least one base (2) and at least two rods (9) having a lower end portion (10) joined to the base (2) and a flexible upper end portion (11) which forms an aerial structure (8), the device (1) being characterized in that it additionally comprises a first set (15) of cables spreading the upper end portion (11) of each rod (9) away from the main axis (A), a second set (16) of cables restricting a maximum spacing between the upper end portion (11) of each rod (9) and the main axis (A), and a system for tensioning the first set (15) of cables, making it possible to exert an adjustable tensile force and to maintain it on the cables of the first set (15) of cables, the aerial structure (8) forming a support for a covering that provides shading.
