The invention relates to a reinforcing device for a body side structure of a motor vehicle, the device comprising a reinforcing element (2) that is intended to be pressed against a body side structure and means for the attachment of a door, characterized in that the reinforcing element (2) comprises at least one first attachment region (32) provided with openings for the attachment of a hinge system for a door of a first type and a second attachment region (34) provided with openings for the attachment of a lateral retaining device for a door of a second type, the attachment means being arranged either in the first attachment region (32), in order to have the reinforcing device cooperate with a door of the first type, or in the second attachment region (34), in order to have the reinforcing device cooperate with a door of the second type.
