ARCHITECTURAL COATING COMPOSITION
Aqueous coating compositions for roofs desirably have both high solar reflectance and low water swelling. They contain a filler, which includes a high-reflectance inorganic pigment like titanium dioxide to provide better solar reflectance, and a binder, both emulsified in an aqueous solvent. The amount of high reflectance pigment in the filler can be reduced if the binder is an opacifying acrylic polymer (OAP) binder. Unexpectedly, coatings with the OAP binder exhibit only moderate and acceptable levels of water swelling.
L'invention concerne des compositions de revêtement aqueuses pour toits ayant de façon souhaitable à la fois une réflectance solaire élevée et un faible gonflement dans l'eau. Elles contiennent une charge, qui comprend un pigment inorganique à réflectance élevée tel que du dioxyde de titane pour fournir une meilleure réflectance solaire, et un liant, tous deux émulsifiés dans un solvant aqueux. La quantité de pigment à réflectance élevée dans la charge peut être réduite si le liant est un liant polymère acrylique opacifiant (OAP). De manière inattendue, les revêtements avec le liant OAP ne présentent que des taux modérés et acceptables de gonflement dans l'eau.
