The present disclosure relates to a fall arrest device (30) configured to arrest the fall of a human operator (10) in the event that the operator (10) falls through an opening (20), the fall arrest device (30) comprising: - a harness (2) configured to be secured to the human operator (10); - a first rigid member (3) secured to and supported by the harness (2), wherein the hoop (3) surrounds and extends outwardly of the human operator (10). The present disclosure further relates to an associated automated storage and retrieval system comprising the fall arrest device (30) as well as a method of protecting a human operator (10) wearing the fall arrest device (30) from a fall when moving around on a rail system (108) of the automated storage and retrieval system (1).
