Experimental Study on the Partial Replacement of Cement by Eggshell Powder and Its Possible Use in Construction
This study investigates the impact of partially replacing cement with 7% ground eggshell in the production of concrete specimens. Initially, a concrete mix was designed to achieve a target compressive strength of 280 kg/cm2. Two sets of concrete mixes were prepared: one with partially replaced cement and the other as a control mix. Various properties, including slump, unit weight, air content, and temperature, were analyzed and compared to those of the control mix. Subsequently, the specimens underwent compression tests after 7, 21, and 28 days of curing to assess their resistance. The compression tests also involved evaluating failure types at each time period and determining the strength achieved by the eggshell mixture. All tests were conducted in accordance with the NTP and ASTM standards. The results obtained offer significant insights into the characteristics and performance of concrete with a partial replacement of cement by eggshell, highlighting its potential application in constructing lightweight slab roofs.
