Design of CubeSat Solar Power System for Real-Time Tracking of Sharjah Vessel
This paper presents results on the design of a CubeSat solar power system for real-time tracking of Sharjah vessel. The main objective is to optimize the design of the energy system based on the CubeSat power loads, and other important input factors such as the CubeSat's altitude and inclination. The power budget and the power components for the CubeSat were determined based on the specific mission (real-time tracking of the Sharjah vessel). Modeling and simulation analysis of the solar power output were performed based on the geometry and position of the CubeSat, the type and efficiency of the solar PV cells, energy storage device, and the electronic devices for the power system. Besides, multiple pointing models for the CubeSat were investigated and the energy performance of the power systems was compared. The best pointing model of the CubeSat was combined with optimized values of inclination and elevations to maximize the solar PV power output.
