Traffic flow measurement using stereo slit camera
In this paper we propose a traffic flow measurement system using a pair of stereo slit cameras. A pair of stereo slit image sequences taken from an overhead camera system gives a time sequence of 1.5 dimensional cross section at the epipolar line. We applied the proposed algorithm on a real traffic scene and showed the effectiveness of traffic flow measurement ability of the system. The result indicates the possibility of vehicle type classification to some extent. The stereo method is robust against road surface shadow effect.
