Experiment of Thermal Insulation Failure of Cable Bundles
When a fire occurs, the external insulation material of the cable will pyrolyze because of the thermal radiation, which will lead to the failure of the insulation material. Based on preview experimental studies, the results show that the failure temperature of cable insulation is only affected by the characteristics of cable materials, and has nothing to do with the external thermal environment. By establishing a model, the time when cable insulation fails can be predicted, however, the model is usually based on single cable and makes a lot of simplified assumptions, which is not consistent with practical project. In order to verify whether the measurement of insulation failure of cable bundles conforms to the reality, a series of experiments have been carried out. In paper a bundled cable model was used, by using the thermal radiation test furnace of plastic cables the insulation failure time and temperature of cable bundles were measured. By comparing and analyzing the insulation failure, it was concluded that the insulation failure experiments of cable bundles were more practical, which was contributed to establish the insulation failure prediction model of cable bundles.
