Corrosion Analysis on Reinforced Concrete using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity
Corrosion in reinforced concrete has become a severe issue in maintaining the quality and strength of concrete structures. Corrosion can lead to cracks and spalling in concrete, affecting its strength. To prevent structural failure due to corrosion, regular monitoring, and inspection of reinforced concrete are necessary to maintain its quality. This research utilizes the Ultrasonic method to evaluate corrosion in concrete reinforcement, understand the influence of different corrosion levels on the Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) value, and examine the effect of concrete quality on the resulting UPV value. A direct pulse shooting scheme is employed in this testing, where the pulse is directly applied to the concrete. The results of this study indicate that there are changes in the UPV value in corroded concrete reinforcement. The higher the corrosion level in the concrete reinforcement, the smaller the velocity value. Differences in velocity values are also observed in concrete with varying quality, where concrete with higher quality will have a correspondingly higher velocity value. Considering this, better-quality concrete will exhibit a higher UPV value as well.
