Recent Trend of Urbanization in Semarang Metropolitan Area: Dynamics of Land Cover Changes
The rapid urbanization of Indonesian cities has led to high-rate urban expansion and land conversion. Semarang, the capital city of central java province has experienced rapid urbanization which has impacted other cities around. This research aims to examine urban expansion and sprawl phenomena in the Semarang Metropolitan Area by considering land use change between 2017 and 2023. We use Remote Sensing images dataset of Dynamic World V1 from the different periods and Geographical Information System (GIS) to analyze land cover changes. The research shows that urban expansion and sprawl has occurred in the Semarang Metropolitan Area with different sizes extended to the surrounding cities.
