Progressive damage analysis of the large RVEs in composite laminates with interfacial failure
Various damage modes have a significant effect on the behavior and performance of the composite materials. In the present study, a numerical method is used to evaluate the effect of micromechanical fiber-matrix debonding on properties degradation in fiber reinforced composites. Cohesive zone model (CZM) is used in the form of a numerical method to study the effects of initiation and propagation of fiber-matrix debonding in large RVEs (Representative volume element) that have various interface properties. Firstly, the damage behavior of these RVEs is studied and validated under the effect of transverse loadings and then the mentioned method is used to evaluate their properties degradation. Stiffness degradation of RVEs in presence of interfacial failure is a matter worthy of concern and the obtained results could be used to investigate the properties degradation of composite laminates in continuum damage mechanics.
