Evaluation of chalkiness in basmati rice by virtual instrumentation
In agricultural industry rice is the most important edible grain. Quality assessment of rice grains depends mainly on its chalkiness percentage, breakage of grains, grain temperature, grain moisture content, insects infected, amylose content, gel consistency and size. Traditional inspection of chalkiness was carried out by human inspectors by passing the light through the rice grains in which percentage of inaccuracy was high because the inspection done varies from person to person sight. Nowadays chalkiness inspection is done by machine vision using image processing techniques. In this paper LabVIEW software is used for the detection and measurement of chalkiness percentage. Algorithm is developed and applied on the image to detect the chalkiness present in the rice grain.
