Selection of Deep Excavation Construction Methods in Building Construction
In the populated metropolitan area, the scale and excavation depth of basement foundation works are continuing to increase and becoming more complex to increase the use of space and consider land cost budget risk. The assessment, planning, and design of deep excavation construction, earth retaining methods, and ground improvement influence the duration, cost, safety, and risk of the subsequent foundation excavation. The purpose of this research is to develop an assessment framework to select the proper method of deep excavation construction in building construction to ensure safe, fast, and economic excavation. Through literature reviews and expert interviews, the criteria and the sub-criteria in the initial assessment framework were determined. Afterward, the Delphi method was used to finalize the assessment framework. The final assessment framework consisted of five criteria and 25 factors. a deep excavation construction method scoring table was established by using Analytic Hierarchical Process to determine the relative weights of the criteria and the sub-criteria and easily apply the assessment framework to deep excavation projects. Finally, a study case was presented to show how to use the scoring table to select a proper construction method.
