Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm of VoIP Based on the Adaptive Linear Prediction in the IEEE 802.16 System
This paper points out the factor that affects the VoIP ( Voice over IP ) capacity under the PMP ( Point-to-Multipoint) mode in the IEEE 802.16 system. By theoretically analyzing the statistical characteristics of VoIP data streams, we propose a new bandwidth allocation algorithm and implement it based on the adaptive linear prediction, which can remarkably reduce the bandwidth waste resulted from UGS ( unsolicited grant service ) specified in the IEEE 802.16 standard and overcome the conservative nature of effective bandwidth. Simulation results show that this algorithm can improve VoIP capacity up to 150% and 50% compared with UGS and effective bandwidth, respectively. In addition, the packet loss rate and transfer delay are 1.4% and 5.1ms below between BS (Base Station) and SS(Subscriber Station), respectively.
