Service-aware 5G/B5G Cellular Networks for Future Connected Vehicles
In recent years, with the proliferation of the car-sharing economy and mobility-as-a-service businesses, the ownership and usage model of connected vehicles have changed significantly. The services provided by connected vehicles may require various Quality-of-Service (QoS), connect to different service backends in the cloud or edge and be flexibly billed to different beneficiaries. However, those requirements are not fully addressed by existing cellular networks, even with the most recent 5G/beyond 5G (B5G) technology. In this paper, we propose a service-network mapping mechanism to bind the specific service application to its traffic packets and implement it with our 5G prototype. We also prototype the standardized functions such as uplink classifier (ULCL) and IP-tuple based packet filtering as an integrated service-aware cellular network to validate its effectiveness with typical connected vehicle services.
