Shear lag in composite steel concrete beams
In order to estimate the flexural rigidity of a composite steel concrete beam, it is necessary to study the shear lag phenomenon, which plays an important role in the distribution of the normal bending stresses at the concrete slab of the composite beam. In this paper, a nonlinear three-dimensional finite element analysis is employed to study shear lag effects and determine the actual effective slab width of the composite steel concrete beam by using the analysis system computer program (ANSYS 11.0). Parametric studies have been carried out to investigate the effect of some important parameters on shear lag in a composite beam under concentrated load; these parameters include the degree of interaction, concrete compressive strength, and longitudinal reinforcement of slab. The varying in these parameters has effects on shear lag and the effective slab width.
