Urban lighting in historic settlements: from quality lighting to cultural reinforcement
The purpose of the study is to define the lighting design techniques and strategies that can be used in small-scale historic urban settlements in order to achieve quality lighting, cultural reinforcement and tourist attraction. By the definition of small-scale settlements this research refers to the historical centers of the city, around which the modern urban environment has been developed. Their role in urban life is analyzed by focusing on the medieval fortification settlements of the Cycladic islands as they constitute a very special case of study with strong architectural and cultural features.
