Driver Behaviors' Impacts on Traffic Safety at the Intersections
Intersections are important elements of road network; according to World Health Organization these small parts are responsible for about fifty percent of the total accidents on the roads network. These accidents are usually involved pedestrians, cyclists, motorcycles or angle car accidents and result serious injury. The main goal of this paper is to study the driver's behavior at the intersections. A survey was deployed by collecting data from various drivers located in the United Arab Emirates in October 2019. The questionnaire was about studying the impact of drivers' behaviors in the intersections to investigate how driver interact with other road users especially in the accident's events. The results showed that demographic characteristics of drivers including gender, age, nationality, social status, education level, type of vehicle and driving experience can affect the driver behavior at different levels. Moreover, the data showed that most respondents are considered safety when driving at intersections, however more research and accident data evaluation are highly recommended to reach a solid conclusion and suggest a sustainable solution for the intersections safety.
