Critical Review on Applications of Self Healing Concrete in Reinforced Concrete Structures
RCC structures suffer damage internally with time. This primarily starts at the atomic level defects which then progress and evolve forming cracks in RCC. Cracks in concrete area very usual phenomenon because of its low tensile strength. In order to fight this and resolve the cracking occurrence, use of SELF HEALING CONCRETE [SHC] is fostered. This category of concrete is chiefly obtained by utilising and taking advantage of existence of bacteria in our environment. Bacteria, in assorted ways, aid the concrete to develop self-healing ability i.e. making concrete capable enough to heal the major as well as minor cracks on its own. Bacteria, mainly Bacillus present in concrete precipitates CaCo3 which then fills the crevices. This method and technique is highly appreciable as the whole procedure is eco-friendly and occurs without any gas emissions. Last but not the least it also gives way to better things like BIO Concrete and green concrete. Accordingly, this paper sheds a light on the overview of the same critical literature studies that were found previously and are connected to self-healing concrete, as well as a review of the effects of these bacterial solutions on concrete qualities.
