A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Energy-saving and environmental protection technologies in civil engineering
There is a significant change toward sustainability and a stronger motivation to pursue the most sustainable way of life, especially in the building construction sector, primarily responsible for the current environmental problems. To reduce energy consumption, optimize the building structure would be an efficient method. Especially steel and reinforcement structure are the main construction forms in many projects. The current steel structure includes a multi-layer multi-span frame structure, interlace truss structure, cold-formed thin-walled steel structure, and metal arch corrugated Roo structure systems. The steel structure is characterized by light weight, high strength, high elastic modulus, and superior seismic and bending resistance. Furthermore, concrete plays a very important role in the construction industry, causing plenty of environmental issues and consuming a sheer amount of energy. This study introduces three different materials for replacement or substitutes for the concrete, including recycled aggregate, volcanic powder, and abode brick. Instead of consuming the energy and raw material, the renewable energy ‘solar energy’ has also been implemented in most building construction. It could support the heating and lighting system of a building in most cases. Passive solar houses and solar water heating systems are two effective methods to save power energy and reduce pollution.
