Tunnel fires - fire precautions and safety: a discussion paper
The author argues that, from the size and complexities of tunnels and their occupancies, frequently the only way of achieving a satisfactory fire safety is by means of a `fire engineered solution'. In tunnels, as with other complex structures, the main component for fire safety will be the management of such issues and the continuing programme of training and maintenance of the systems installed.
