Effects of throughflow and quadratic drag on the stability of a doubly diffusive Oldroyd-B fluid-saturated porous layer
The effects of quadratic drag and vertical throughflow on the linear stability of a doubly diffusive Oldroyd-B fluid-saturated horizontal porous layer are investigated. A modified Forchheimer-extended Darcy model which takes care of inertia and viscoelastic effects is employed to describe the flow in the porous medium. The boundaries are considered to be either impermeable or porous, but perfect conductors of heat and solute concentration. Conditions for the occurrence of stationary and oscillatory convection are obtained using the Galerkin technique. In contrast to the single component system, throughflow has a destabilizing effect on the stability of the system irrespective of its direction and also the nature of the boundaries of the porous layer.
