Fast P-wave AVO in fluid-saturated porous media with aligned fractures
Based on elastic wave equations of fluid-saturated porous anisotropic media and four continuous conditions for interfaces between dissimilar fluid-saturated porous anisotropic media, a set of methods for calculating elastic wave reflection and transmission coefficients is derived. On the basis of method and models, calculated results show that the fast P-wave reflection coefficient in the recorded line parallel to the fractures is larger than that in the recorded line perpendicular to the fractures, and that the energy of the fast P-waves converts in part to slow P-waves. Due to large attenuation and small reflection energy, slow P-waves are difficult to observe in real data. Fluid type will affect fast P-wave reflection coefficients.
