Mit Hilfe eines hölzernen Rahmens stellen Männer aus Tarim aus mit Häcksel und Wasser vermengtem Lehm eines Gartens Ziegel, die zum Trocknen in langen Reihen aufgestellt werden. Anschließend wird aus Lehm, Wasser und Häcksel Mörtel bereitet, der schichtweise auf eine befeuchtete Grundmauer aufgetragen wird; darauf werden die Ziegel in der Art des Läuferverbandes in Abtreppungen gelegt. Beim Aufbau werden Lot und Richtschnur benutzt. Mit der Hand wird mit Häcksel vermengter Lehm als Verputz aufgetragen.
In a garden, a group of brick-makers dig out a part of the fertile earth to make bricks. Water from an irrigation canal is directed into a ditch where the earth is mixed with clay and chaff. Bricks are made out of this mixture with the help of a wooden frame. After being left to dry for eight hours the bricks are lined up in long rows. Two or three days later they are piled up to be taken away. - The building of a wall follows. Near a masonry foundation mortar is made of clay, water and chaff. The mason moistens the foundation and spreads on it a layer of loam. A helper hands him the smoothed claybricks. The buildung of the wall is done with plummet and plumb-line. A coating of a mixture of clay and chaff is finally added by hand.
