Resilient Modulus Testing Device for Dynamic Properties of Asphalt Mixes
The engineering properties of asphalt concrete mixes, including their elastic and fatigue characteristics and their Poisson's ratio, are required for structural analysis of flexible pavements for cross-section design, to detect problem mixes, and to evaluate alternative paving materials efficiently. Previously, New York had not tested asphalt mixes for such parameters. The purpose of the study has been to evaluate a resilient modulus device for measuring resilient and creep moduli at 40, 77, and 100 F. Seven state-approved top course mixes were sampled from trucks, and Marshall specimens were fabricated. The resilient and creep moduli were measured at each temperature and Marshall parameters determined.
