Lignite Fly Ash as a Partial Replacement for Portland Cement in Concrete
A laboratory test program was undertaken to determine the effects of utilization of lignite fly ash as a substitute for various percentages of the Portland cement in concrete. Compressive and flexural strength properties were determined. The air-voids systems were examined and rapid freeze-thaw durability and resistance to deicer scaling tests performed. Reduction in mortar bar expansion and methods of determining available alkalies were also investigated. The results of the investigation indicate lignite fly ash can be used as a partial replacement for Portland cement in concrete to produce strong, durable concrete.
