National Dam Safety Program. Lake Wanda Dam (NJ00510), Hudson River Basin, Tributary to Wawayanda Creek, Sussex County, New Jersey. Phase 1 Inspection Report
This dam was inspected on 7 November 1979 by Anderson-Nichols & Company, Inc. under contract to the State of New Jersey. The State, under agreement with the U.S. Army Engineer District, Philadelphia, had this inspection performed in accordance with the National Dam Inspection Act, Public Law 92-367. Lake Wanda Dam, initially listed as a high hazard potential structure but reduced to a low hazard potential structure as a result of this inspection, is judged to be in poor overall condition. The dam's three spillways are considered inadequate because a flow equivalent to five percent of the One Hundred Year Flood would cause the dam to be overtopped. The low hazard potential classification means that in the event of failure of the dam, no loss of life and only minimal economic loss is expected. As the hazard potential classification could change with future development, it is recommended that the classification be reviewed periodically.
