A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
An integrated foundation-framing construction system is proposed for low-cost and conventional houses and agricultural and light industrial buildings of wood-frame construction. Such a system, if applied to low-cost housing, would have the potential of decreasing the cost of the essential structural shell considerably. The proposed system eliminates the digging of the conventional foundation ditches and the construction of the conventional concrete or stone foundations and foundation walls. The system is adaptable to conventional as well as newly advanced construction methods utilizing wood and wood-base products. It is applicable regardless of whether the structure is site-assembled with pre-cut lumber or with pre-assembled components or prefabricated; regardless of whether the structure is wood-finished, metal-clad, or brick-faced.
