Hospital Engineering Handbook
A handbook has been designed to give hospital administrators and engineers general information about practices and advances in the field of hospital engineering. Development of the handbook was a joint project of the American Society for Hospital Engineers and its parent affiliate, the American Hospital Association. Hospital engineering is discussed according to the following categories: engineering department organization within a hospital, role of hospital engineer, management, purchasing and materials handling, building maintenance, planned maintenance, environmental control, solid waste management, heat energy processes, air conditioning, utilities (water and gas), electrical and electronic systems, lighting, x-ray and surgical facilities, communications systems, fire safety, and security. A list of references is provided, as well as a list of organizations associated with hospital engineering.
