Advances in the Department of Energy's Prototypical Consolidation Demonstration Project
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is sponsoring the development and testing of production-scale equipment to perform dry, horizontal consolidation of spent nuclear fuel assemblies at the proposed Monitored Retrievable Storage (MRS) Facility or the High Level Waste (HLW) Repository. These activities are being performed for DOE's Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) under contracts administered by the Department's Idaho Operations Office (DOE-ID). NUS Corporation of Gaithersburg, Maryland, is the contractor for Phase III, Fabrication and Cold Checkout, of the Prototypical Consolidation Demonstration Project (PCDP). EG&G Idaho, Inc., the management and operating contractor at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL), is providing technical and quality oversight of NUS and its subcontractors for DOE-ID and procuring Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) to be used in the cold testing program. 1 tab.
