A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Many failures of high hazard dams, earth structures, slopes, and foundations have been attributed to the liquefaction of saturated soils. The cyclic behavior of stratified silty sandy soils is presently poorly understood, yet these materials are commonly found in alluvial deposits and hydraulic fills, which have a history of liquefaction during earthquakes. The main objective of the research project was to compare the behavior of stratified and homogeneous silty sands during seismic liquefaction conditions for various silt contents and confining pressures.
