Brief Reconnaissance Study for the Addition of Hydropower for Fairmont Dam, Fairmont, South Carolina
The feasibility of retrofitting the Fairmont Dam near Fairmont, SC for power generation was examined. This dam has a developable head of 35 ft., was built in the late 1800's for supplying hydropower to a downstream mill which no longer exists. The study of environmental, institutional, safety and economic factors showed that hydroelectric power development at this site could be developed in the future if development costs can be reduced and/or power purchase prices increase. No additional studies are recommended. (ERA citation 07:046129)
