Annual Housing Survey: 1979. Housing Characteristics for Selected Metropolitan Areas: Seattle-Everett, Washington, Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area
This report presents statistics on housing and household characteristics for Seattle - Everett, Wash. Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA) from the 1979 Annual Housing Survey. The sample for this SMSA consisted of about 15,000 designated housing units evenly divided between the central city and outlying areas. The section on general housing provides tables on selected characteristics, such as vacancy status, units in structure, year built, plumbing, rooms, household composition, renter or owner occupied, travel time to work, and telephones, for 1979, 1976, and 1970, as well as tables on characteristics of new construction units, houses removed from the housing inventory, and vacant year - round housing units. The section on indicators of housing and neighborhood quality contains data on occupancy, utilization, and structural characteristics of owner and renter occupied housing units and on neighborhood condition, services, and attitudes of residents. Other statistics describe owner and renter - occupied housing units by income of the family or primary individual, value of property, or gross rent and the characteristics of households that moved into their units during the 12 months preceding the interview. Indicators of housing and neighborhood quality are cross - tabulated by income, value, and gross rent. All sections present separate breakdowns for housing units with black and Spanish - origin heads. The survey shows that the Seattle - Everett area made a net gain of 93,000 housing units between 1976 and 1979. Approximately 11 percent of the total housing stock was constructed since 1976, primarily in the suburbs, and 10,000 units were lost through demolition, disaster, or other means. The appendices contain information on the survey's geographical classifications, definitions, and methodology.
