Virginia Pile Manual. Volume III. Load Tests

The Virginial Pile Manual was prepared to assist location and design engineers in the selection of suitable sites and foundation structures for bridges to be located in the Tidewater and Piedmont section of Virginia. Volume III, 'Load Tests', consists of data obtained from load tests of single piles which were carried to failure or to some multiple of the design load in Virginia. These data include geologic information of the site, driving history of the pile and the load-settlement curves for the test pile. By drawing upon the records of previously constructed bridges, the foundation engineer will have the opportunity to extend his own experience and judgment in making design decisions. By using the proposed analytical method for determining pile lengths and load capacities as a supplementary approach to current practice, the engineer should effect a more efficient and economical layout and design of the foundation structure.
