Tonoloway Aqueduct. Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Historic Structures Report. Part II
The report deals with the construction of aqueduct No. 7 across Tonoloway Creek. Bids for this project, which was sponsored by the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, were opened in 1835. Because of the weak financial condition of the Company, construction was at a reduced rate. However, with limited financial assistance from the Maryland State Legislature, the rate of construction progress improved, despite engineering difficulties, labor unrest, and constantly rising construction costs. The project involved the construction of 27 miles of waterway between Dam No. 5 and the Great Cacapon over a period of four years. (Author Modified Abstract)
