Highway Engineering Advanced Computer Systems
The report describes the Integrated Civil Engineering System (ICES) developed in the study and related experimental work conducted in graphic display, automatic plotting and teleprocessing. ICES provides an operating system for the IBM 360 series including a command definition language, a dialect of FORTRAN called ICETRAN, dynamic data structures, dynamic program structures, secondary storage management, and primaru memory management, within the framework of which applications programs for the several phases of highway and bridge design may be incorporated. In addition procedures were developed and are described for batch processing with remote terminal equipment, and for a limited capability in automatic drafting. (BPR abstract)
