A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This codebook provides reference data on characteristics of 172 residential rental buildings surveyed in St. Joseph County, Indiana from September through November 1977. This sample was intended to supplement data collected in the Housing Assistance Supply Experiment (HASE) which surveys a large sample of residential properties throughout the country on a regular basis. The smaller, or wave 3, survey concerned a portion of the buildings in the HASE sample and based its responses on extensive observations of the physical characteristics of the buildings, as well as on the general neighborhood environment. The format used to describe variables and provide response frequencies is outlined and illustrated. The definition of each variable is followed by its input variables and a description of its construction. Marginal tables provide additional information on the file by showing the incidence of nonresponse, highlighting extreme values, and indicating cumulative distributions of response values. Examples of building characteristics treated in the codebook are exterior walls, landscaping, roofs, sidewalks, chimneys, and mailboxes. Audit codes are appended, and an index of variables is provided.
