Eagle Meadows & 152 Eagle Heights Units Military Family Housing Privatization
The Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI), enacted in the 1996 Defense Authorization Act, offers the Service Secretaries broad, new authority to quickly and economically provide adequate housing for military members. The MHPI allows the Department of Defense (DoD) to work in partnership with private developers and lenders to provide housing that is affordable and available to military personnel. The benefits of privatized housing through MHPI, when compared to the traditional MilCon process, is the leveraging of limited housing funds with private sector resources. The Eagle Heights housing area was constructed between 1958 and 1961. The Eagle Meadows housing area was built in 1975. Because of the advanced age of the military family housing and its continuing deterioration, these housing units require extensive maintenance and repair. The housing units are small and present cramped and unsatisfactory living quarters to the military members. The proposed project will bring the subject housing units up to current housing standards.
