The structures at George Washington Birthplace National Monument are all reconstructions, now recognized as inaccurate in both structural detail and location. The author of this furnishing study for the reconstructed kitchen and kitchen garden first acknowledges this uncertainty about building location and use and then describes the additional lack of specific furnishing information on the Augustine Washington plantation at the time of George Washington's birth.
