A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Land Use Plan, Fort Pierce-St. Lucie County, Florida
Two plans are involved: a fairly specific plan for Fort Pierce, within the more general land use pattern for the St. Lucie County Region. Physical factors affecting development are examined in the light of the community's objectives, and three alternate patterns of urban growth are evaluated: urban island (sector growth) ; western (lateral growth) ; and corridor (lineal growth). The lineal pattern was selected as most suitable for the particular conditions of Fort Pierce's history and present development. The largest section of the report covers specific space needs of residential, commercial, industrial, and public uses in the area, and finally the land use plan presented graphically, along with steps toward implementation.
