A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Quarterly Reports: Railway Technical Research Institute, Volume 24, Number 2, 1982
This report contains English language Reviews, Technical Papers, and Technical Notes by authors from the various laboratories in the Institute. These reports should be of interest to all personnel engaged in the transportation industry with particular emphasis on railways. This issue contains reviews on snow melting method on roofs of passenger platforms for Joetsu Shinkansen, and Technical Papers entitled: prediction of earthquake motion for railway structures; shape factor of the rigid footing; development of cement-asphalt mortar slab tracks in cold climate; evaluation of rail head surface configuration viewed from wheel load variation; characteristics of rolling resistance of freight cars at low temperature and the general expression; and asymptotic method of evaluating reliability and maintainability of highly reliable networks and its application. Technical Notes cover such topics as test results on ballasted tracks laid on subgrade of cutting and on reinforced soil subgrade on embankment; vibrations of tunnel structure and ground surface caused by running trains; the test of regenerative brake system of AC electric multiple unit car; impact fatigue fracture of axle-steel and other subjects of interest.
