Comparison of Methods for Wind Uplift Load Testing of Roof Trusses for Manufactured Housing
Tests were conducted in the Research Center laboratory using a pneumatic truss test apparatus developed by MiTek Industries. Three different truss designs were tested: gable (peak), scissors, and cathedral. All trusses tested in this series were obtained from a single fabricator. The truss designs had been evaluated for uplift by testing in the inverted position according to the existing FMHCSS protocol. For each truss design, three specimens were tested in accordance with the FMHCSS (inverted) test protocol and three specimens were tested according to the proposed alternative (upright) test protocol. The report presents and compares results obtained from tests conducted in accordance with these two protocols.
