Structural Configurations for Expedient Pavement Systems
Four pavement concepts utilizing a fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) wearing a surface are presented as candidates for expedient air field pavement systems. Three of the conceptual systems utilize FRP as the material for the substructure configuration. The fourth system employs a aluminum honeycomb. Parametric studies relating structural response characteristics to system weight were performed to establish optimum configuration geometries for each of the four systems. Results of this preliminary study indicate that each conceptual system satisfies the criteria of an expedient pavement. (Author)
