Archaeological Research at the McClean Barn/Spangler Farmhouse, Gettysburg National Military Park, Pennsylvania
Archaeological investigations at the McClean Barn and the Spangler House, Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, were conducted in August of 1987 by MAAR Associates, Inc. on behalf of the National Park Service. These excavations were required to assure that archaeological investigations be completed prior to planned maintenance activities. The goal of these investigations was to determine archaeological integrity, artifact density, and the degree of stratigraphic build-up. Investigations were undertaken at the McClean Barn primarily to check stratigraphic integrity and artifact density in areas which would be disturbed by maintenance work. Investigations at the Spangler House focused on the foundation and possible builder's trench along the north wall of the kitchen ell.
