Revision of Standards for Measurements of Shielding Effectiveness of Enclosures
A new method for evaluating shielded enclosures using low-impedance, low-frequency fields is under investigation. This method involves the use of two large rectangular transmitting loops which surround and 'immerse' the enclosure in an essentially magnetic field. An average value of the field penetrating the enclosure is obtained using a small pick-up loop in the center of the shielded enclosure. In addition, a small loop probe is used to explore the local field in the neighborhood of wall and door joints. Tests to measure the variation of shielding effectiveness with frequency were performed on a sheet of copper, 2.5 mils thick, and on the copper screening material of one shielded enclosure. (Author)
