Nondestructive Testing of Pavements: Final Test Results and Evaluation Procedure
The report presents results for an investigation to develop techniques of nondestructive evaluation of the load-carrying capacity of airfield pavements. Tests were performed with vibratory equipment on pavements where conventional pavement parameters were also measured. Two evaluation approaches, deflection-extrapolation and stiffness methods, are discussed. The nondestructive stiffness method was found to relate to conventional pavement evaluation criteria. Results of the study showed the reliability of the nondestructive pavement evaluation, and a proposed nondestructive evaluation procedure was developed. The equipment used is described in detail, and recommendations are given for improvements to the equipment. (Author)
