Self-Help Construction of 1-Story Buildings
This manual is designed to assist a community or a family to: (1) plan and design a one-story building for present and future needs, (2) assess the advantages and disadvantages of locally available construction materials, (3) draw and understand their own construction plans; and (4) successfully complete construction according to their own plans. The focus is on basic principles of construction with materials that are low-cost, available in many parts of the world, and easy to work with. It is illustrated to help make the processes easier to visualize. These buildings are specifically designed for developing countries and do not necessarily meet building code requirements.
