A Consolidation Study
In Louisiana, many large earth fills, such as highway and railroad embankments, have settled much faster than settlement estimates have indicated. The purpose of this paper is to study both laboratory and field data which are available for this general area and attempt to determine the cause for this large discrepancy in time and arrive at a procedure for estimating settlement which will more closely follow the actual settlement in the field.
