Pavement Management Information System (PMIS)
The report describes the Pavement Management Information System (PMIS) developed for the Mississippi State Highway Department. The purpose of PMIS is to determine road network status for assigning rehabilitation needs. Both Project level and Network level rehabilitation selection procedures are addressed. The research was done in four distinct but interrelated phases: (1) Design Database, (2) Pavement Evaluation Procedure, (3) Develop Performance Prediction Models, and (4) Develop Rehabilitation Priority Assessment Model. As a part of the first phase, a database comprised of all relevant data of road network in District No. 2 was developed using dBASE III plus software. The most common type of distresses, their mechanism, severity and extent levels, and method of survey are presented in the Distress Manual, an annexure to the report. Pavement Condition Rating (PCR), a composite rating developed from road roughness rating (RR) and distress rating (DR) defines the condition of roads at any time. Performance prediction models were formulated for five different families of pavements incorporating the various parameters affecting pavement life. A model to prioritize cost-effective rehabilitation actions for single project as well as network comprised the final phase.
