Lateral Pressures of Tremie-Placed Concrete
During an extensive program of dry dock construction the need was emphasized for a more thorough understanding of the characteristics of plastic concrete placed by tremie methods in relatively deep water. Of particular concern were the lateral pressures exerted by tremie-placed concrete on the prefabricated underwater forms used for dry dock construction. The tests discussed in the report were made on both floor and wall forms during the construction of Dry Docks 5 and 7 at U. S. Naval Dry docks, Hunters Point, San Francisco, California. The tests reported herein consisted of: Installing pressure cells in the wall and floor forms of the 60-ft dry dock prior to the concrete-pouring operations; Measuring the lateral pressures exerted on the forms during tremie pouring at various selected rates; Computing from the measured data, and Evaluating the information so obtained.
